Looking for an officiant for your upcoming wedding in B.C.? You can choose from a marriage commissioner, a wedding officiant or a celebrant.

While planning our own wedding, which is taking place this August (yes the countdown is on!), my fiance and I weren't sure how to find an officiant for our ceremony. I hope this is helpful!

In B.C., marriage commissioners are often retired people who deliver civil ceremonies. Fees are set. Visit this link to view them: http://www.vs.gov.bc.ca/marriage/mcommissionerfees.html Here is a handy link to search for a marriage commissioner in your area of B.C. Search for Marriage Commissioners: http://www.vs.gov.bc.ca/cgi-bin/search/marriage_commissioners.cgi You can also see a sample wedding ceremony here: http://www.vs.gov.bc.ca/marriage/pdf/vsa718.pdf Finally, there is lots of information here about marriage licenses & getting married in B.C. http://www.vs.gov.bc.ca/marriage/howto.html

Wedding officiants have religious designation, but some of them will perform a non-religious ceremony. Here is one: Young Hip & Married http://www.younghipandmarried.com

You can find more of them listed on sites like http://weddingswest.com under Marriage Services or Officiants

Celebrants create custom ceremonies. These are often for people who want something different. It's new in BC, and there are only a few of them. Here are some links to 2 of them: Modern Celebrant http://www.moderncelebrant.ca
